San Cristobal
In 1519 a small settlement was established on a Caribbean shore caressed by warm, tropical waters. The colonists wanted to name it San Cristobal in honour of Christopher Columbus, but the native Indians preferred a word from their own language: La Habana. San Cristobal de La Habana would of course become the beautiful and sensual cosmopolitan capital of Cuba.
